I’m Sarah.

After graduating college, I worked as a TV news reporter at an NBC affiliate outside of Chicago. I then retired from that life to be a stay at home mom to my three little ones. While at home I was able to rekindle my love for decorating and crafts. A blog seemed like the perfect place to share those ideas. There is inspiration everywhere, I hope you find some here.

my 5 layer birthday cake

Each year for my birthday I normally get an ice cream cake... but this year I wanted to branch out and try something new. I think it's because I have made so many good desserts recently including this one and this one. So I saw this recipe and decided to give it a try.

It basically combines all of my favorite desserts, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and s'mores. It is a layer of brownie, marshmallow cream, chocolate chip cookie, marshmallow cream, graham crackers, fudge frosting, chocolate chip cookie, marshmallow cream, brownie and frosting. I didn't add the cheesecake layers like the recipe calls for... basically because I didn't feel like making it. I also added heath bar bits on top. It was really good but really sweet... almost too sweet for me and I have a huge sweet tooth. I think adding a cake layer in there and taking out the marshmallow might make it a little better.

I had a great birthday with my little family. We went out for pizza {my favorite} and then Jackson insisted that he and Parker hide my presents so I had a little scavenger hunt. He also kept asking me who I was going to invite to my party and didn't understand why I just wanted to spend my birthday with them. I told him it's because they are the most special people to me in the whole wide world.
