I’m Sarah.

After graduating college, I worked as a TV news reporter at an NBC affiliate outside of Chicago. I then retired from that life to be a stay at home mom to my three little ones. While at home I was able to rekindle my love for decorating and crafts. A blog seemed like the perfect place to share those ideas. There is inspiration everywhere, I hope you find some here.

i-top review + giveaway!

The other day I came home from grocery shopping and was surprised by a huge box sitting at my doorstep. I opened it up and found a whole bunch of crafting supplies from Imaginisce. They were so nice to just send me all of these goodies. So I quickly got the kids some lunch and then searched through all of my new supplies. Among them was the i-top, a button/brad/magnet maker.
I made a few projects with the i-top and have some below and will share more with you throughout the week. It is so easy to use because the grip is very soft and you don't have to press very hard so it doesn't hurt your hand. Also, you can change the size of brad you want to make very easily, just by spinning the head around. It is very versatile and allows you to make four different size buttons or brads.
Here are the steps from start to finish to make a brad.
Cut some fabric using the stencils. Sometimes I didn't cut the little spikes out and it still worked fine. It was a lot quicker just cutting a circle.
Then put the fabric in the i-top with the brad pieces.
And that's it! You have a little brad. It looks like a lot of steps but from step 1 to step 8 it takes about 30 seconds. I made some with paper and fabric and I think the fabric wraps around the brad easier. On the paper ones {which I'll show later in the week} you can see some wrinkles on the brad.
i-top project #1 {brad artwork}
Here is the first project I made with the i-top. It was so easy and took me probably a half hour. I simply got a small picture frame, got a piece of cardstock and cut it the same size as the glass in the picure frame. Then I made these 12 little brads using the i-top. I just poked them through the carstock and then put the cardstock in the frame. I didn't put the glass back in the frame, I left it out.
I liked this project because it was easy and I could make it match my color scheme because I was making the brads by hand. So I just picked whatever fabric I wanted. You could also do this same project but make a pattern or shape. Like spelling out someone's name or making it in the shape of an animal. There are different size brads, so you could do that pretty easily. I just wanted a very simple piece of artwork.
i-top project #2 {magnets}
I made some magnets using the i-top for a little table top message board in Elly's room.
{I'll have a full tutorial on this one later in the week}
i-top project #3 {bobby pins}
For this project, I just made a button using the i-top and then used some Imaginisce products, the flower petals and the bobby pin. You just snap the button on the bobby pin. It's so easy and interchangeable.
i-top project #4 {rings}
These rings are similar to the bobby pins, I just made the buttons, for the mustard one, I just laid down some strips of string under the fabric and just made the button like normal. The ring bands provided by Imaginisce are adjustable and like the bobby pins, you can just snap on a new button when you want to change it up.
